The Atlanta Hawks have started on what the team is calling the second-largest arena renovation in NBA history, behind only the upgrades at Madison Square Garden.

The MSG work took three years and cost $1 billion and was finished in 2013. Atlanta’s Philips Arena renovation is supposed to cost around $200 million and be finished by the start of the 2018-19 season. The Hawks will play in the building while the work is being done.

The entire arena is going to be transformed. It will feature a new center-hung scoreboard that will be more than three times the size of the one in place now. It will have wider concourses and new, upgraded bars and restaurants.

One of the features of the current arena, the wall of suites, will be removed and suites will be added throughout. It will also have a Top Golf suite and a barbershop.
